Tom began working in technical fields fixing TVs and video games in
1983 during high school. While earning a degree in astrophysics from
Michigan State, he was building and fixing computers for the
Department of Education as well as training staff to use them and
fellow techs to fix them.
He also wrote code for the SOHO satellite while working for Jeffrey
Kuhn in the Department Of Physics and Astronomy.
In 2000, he taught a computer repair course at Baker College. In 2005,
he started tutoring students in Portland, Oregon inluding many
preparing for the SAT, ACT, GMAT & GRE. Most of the GMAT students were
Nike employees and most of the physics and chemistry students were
nurses working on their medical degrees.
In 2011, he began working online, and since the Covid scare, it’s
almost exclusively so. He started helping people with the MCAT in 2011
as well.
His major strengths are math, physics, logic & overcoming math anxiety
so you can finally own it. He is still in Portland and has a teenage
son keeping him on his toes.
His best student, Catherine Nguyen, got 5s on every AP exam available,
and earned free tuition at Stanford.
